Employment history & portfolio

As with any portfolio, other web developers of varying skill will likely have modified the original code.

Friends Life: Senior Interaction Developer (2010 – current)

XHTML, JavaScript, Flash, Teamsite, PHP, MySQL, jQuery, CSS, user testing, internal consultancy, project management, XSL.

Key sites

Three websites rebranded, two launched and a content management system replaced all in six months.

Single-handedly handled rebranding of three websites, covering over 3,000 pages and many additional supporting files. This change went over and above what was required (swapping a logo) to cover additional enhancements to improve the user experience whilst not impacting on time, quality or cost.

Mitigated over £60k of agency spend (based on quoted agency daily rates) by handling work originally planned for the agency. Handled and reworked agency code to work within the limitations and peculiarities of Friends Life’s back end systems.

Rated within the top 10% in both December and June.

BS1 Web Design Ltd: Development Director (2010 – current)

XHTML, JavaScript, MySQL, PHP, WordPress, CSS, client management.

Key deliveries

Co-founded BS1 Web Design providing digital solutions for a number of clients including AXA Wealth, Sun Life Direct and the National Trust.

AXA: Senior Webmaster (2001 – 2010)

XHTML, Javascript, MySQL, PHP, CSS, basic JSP, Flash.

Key deliveries

Pioneered the concept of prototyping within the company resulting in vastly improved deliveries from IT driven from clearer requirements.

Turned Sun Life Direct’s website from a substandard brochureware offering to a marked-leading website, gaining year-on-year increasing sales of, at the time, 20%. Subsequently rebranded the site within a month following a change of scope at project level.

Helped win a £700m pension scheme by producing a quality demonstration website within a day for the sales force to demo to the client.

Sun Life International: Marketing Co-ordinator (1999 – 2001)

HTML, Javascript, CSS.

Commissioned on a 1 year contract to deliver through an agency a website for Sun Life International. Succeeded and took over changes from the agency. Subsequently launched a new website separately to the agency and then rebranded the main website mitigating £20k of agency spend (based on quoted rates at the time).

Interests

Fast and classic cars and motorbikes and consequently spending more than I should on fuel and road tax. I have a full, clean UK car and bike licence.

Music – I play the organ, piano and various brass instruments to a high standard and have been known to write music.

I don’t think I need to say computers and technology, but computers and technology.
